Biography

Dr. Jacqueline Alder is the Head of the Marine, Coastal and Freshwater Branch in the Division of Environmental Policy Implementation, United Nations Environment Programme based in Nairobi. She runs a global program focused on assisting countries to build capacity to implement ecosystem management at national and regional scales. She leads the development of approaches, tools policies and programmes for ecosystem management with a focus on marine spatial planning, ecosystem effects of fisheries, integrated management of water resources, ecosystem based adaptation and ecosystem services valuation. She also manages UNEP's Regional Seas Programme and the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-Based Activities (GPA).
