Biography

Sylvie Guénette was involved in using ecosystem modelling to determine the causes of decline of the Steller sea lions in Alaska. She was previously working at the Sea Around Us Project, doing ecosystem modelling and rebuilding historical catches. She has also worked on lake sturgeon and yellow perch in Quebec and several other projects related to fisheries fish ecology and natural resource management. Her experience includes manipulation of landings data set and reconstruction of missing fishing effort from auxiliary information sources.

Her interests are in understanding the impact of fishing on ecosystems and the use of marine reserves for conservation and as a fisheries management tool.
