Biography

Cam Ainsworth completed his PhD degree under Professor Tony Pitcher at the UBC Fisheries Centre in May 2006. The dissertation entitled, "Strategic Marine Ecosystem Restoration in Northern British Columbia" used computer simulations and economic analysis to look at fisheries management strategies that would restore ecosystem abundance and biodiversity to historic levels in Northern BC. Cameron is now working as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the UBC Fisheries Centre investigating coral reef fishery dynamics in western Papua,Indonesia. The project will require development of coral reef ecosystem models, new spatial analysis routines, and optimal policy gaming scenarios. Three environmental non-government organizations are collaborating for the Packard-funded project, which continues until the fall of 2007. The ecosystem-based management advice is to contribute to Indonesian fisheries management, and help conserve the SE Asia "coral triangle', the most biodiverse marine ecosystem in the world.
